| Cardiac Ischaemia |
Angina Pectoris diagnosed April 2002 following feeling SOB and tightness in the chest - no actual pain experienced. Admitted under Dr R Schilling at The London Hospital and seen at Barts for an angiogram. This was done on 11th April 2002 and blockage of the LAD coronary artery was shown and so a single stent was inserted. See separate page for Angio report. I have never had hypertension or diabetes (my GP checks me twice a year). Hospital No. 1280624 WH.
Echo cardiogram repeated April 2010. Result reported as normal, no heart failure, so good report from cardiologist. Various other tests done in 2011, no obvious issues. This included a Myocardial Perfusion scan showing good LV function. |
| Atrial Fibrillation |
I went into fibrillation a few days before I was admitted to UCH on 1st August 2006. I was anti-coagulated and put on Amiodorone, but did not convert to sinus rhythm naturally. I went back to Barts and had a successful DC conversion in Nov 2006. I have been in sinus rhythm since then. I have at times complained of SOB on excercise and so I had an excercise ECG and echo-cardiogram in Feb 2007. I stayed in SR throughout and reached stage III with no ECG ischaemic changes. No on-going ischaemia and cardiac function good so nothing further indicated and so discharged from the clinic.
21st Feb 09: Went into fast AF (HR over 150) while digging on the allottment. Admitted to the London Hospital and put on Bisoprolol 5mg which brought the rate down but left me in AF. Rate not slowing so Bisoprolol increased to 10mg daily on March 3rd. On 13th March 2009 I had a second successful cardio-version at Barts (after the one in 2006). Bisoprolol stopped and given Sotalol 80mg bd.
7th Jan 2010: a third time I went into fast AF, was admitted to the London Hospital and had a successful synchronised DC cardioversion (one shock at 200 J) on 8th Jan. No change in medication.
4th Feb 2010: went back into AF again - advised to double dose of Sotalol and see Richard Schilling in the Clinic re possible ablation. However I spontaneously went back into sinus rhythm after a few days, and reduced the dose of Sotalol back to 80mg bd. We will "wait and see" if I have paroxysmal AF in which case an ablation would be recommended. By the way - one of thereasons I went back into SR was the time of prayer I received from my friends. 28th June 2011 - re-admitted to the London following 6 days in AF again, accompanied by SOB and chest tightness. Cardiac ablation is the next step. Started on Digoxin and Bisoprol. 30th June 2011 (!!) re-admitted under Richard Schilling at Barts and had successful DC cardio-version again. ALL my tablets changed back again - so stop Bisoprol and Digoxin and re-start Statin, aspirin, Ramipril and Sotolol. 8th Dec 2011 Still in SR -- AARGH!! - I spoke too soon - the next day I went back into AF and had my 5th cardio-version at Barts on 12th Dec 2011 (and my 6th bout of AF - is it Ablation next?.

Bisoprolol and Atenolol stopped when Sotalol started in March 2009 , Sotalol doubled Feb 2010, and reduced back a few weeks later. I stopped the statin because of severe muscle aches, although that hasn't helped much (July 2010). Drug regime changed June 2011 - Above table is correct at Dec 1st 2011 after cardio-version and discussion with Richard Schilling. |

| Arthitis of the knee and Cellulitis |
Following a RTA in which I had a # femur and tib/fib on the right side, I have developed an OA right knee. Along with the leg shortening and bouts of cellulitis in the right foot, this has led to difficulty in walking, and so by the time I had the cardiac ischaemia, excercise became very difficult and I have put on a lot of weight. I am currently attempting once more to deal with that. At some time I need to decide whether to have a knee replacement (a washout in 1999 helped at the time).I have had two or three bouts of cellulitis in the right lower leg following the RTA incident. These necessitated hospital admission for intravenous anti-biotics, but the last bout was in 2004.
July 2010 - now due for a knee replacement at Barts in a few weeks time. This was done in August 2010 with mixed results. November 2011 - I have increasing muscle aches and weakness - awaiting further investigations. |
| Foot clinic |
In 2006 I had an orthosis casting to provide raised insoles to lengthen my right leg by about .70 cm following the leg shortening after my RTA back in 1983. In Sept 2008 I re-visited the Foot Clinic at Mile End Hospital for a new casting. My hospital number is 51757. Now transferred to Orpington. |

| Snoring |
A big problem. I was seen in the Sleep Clinic and also the Thoracic Unit at the London Chest in June 2004, and basically they found nothing pathological. It was not felt worthwhile operating (or at least the side effects could be worse than the initial problem). So I take Fexofenadine to reduce nasal catarrh, but the snoring goes on!! |
