Referred to as John Sheldon of Abberton in Worcs, and the grandfather of William Sheldon who founded the Beoley line.
Barnard p3 states - "John Sheldon, of the Sheldons of Rowley .... was the first to be associated with a Worcesteshire estate at Abberton, some six miles from Pershore, in the reign of Henry IV (he reigned from 1399 - 1413). He leased the manor from the Abbot and Convent of Pershore"
I am assuming that this is the correct John. As he leased Abberton between 1399 and 1413 he must have been born around 1380 at the latest.
However see notes under the other John! - Jim Pearson in his book on St Leonard's Church, Beoley states that the family tree is misleading. "The inscription over the tomb of William Sheldon states that he was the son of John Sheldon of Rowley, however the escutcheon shows that he was son of Ralph Sheldon and Joyce Ruding. He is therefore grandson of John of Abberton and not descended from John of Rowley". However both Johns appear to have been born in Rowley, so they may be confused.
In Bigland the entry is "John Sheldon of Rowley Regis and Abberton in the county of Worcester, 4th Edward 4th, anno 1464". I assume this date is of his death - but it is not clear.
